Champions League Preview

Morning all

I will be doing a preview for each of the Europa League and Champions League games today, followed by tips for the overall set of games. We start with Tuesday’s game – Real Madrid vs Juventus:

Juventus-Real Madrid

These two are both in very good form in the Champions League. Real have not lost away from home yet, with one draw and 4 wins. Most of their wins overall come under 2.5 goals. 4 of their 8 wins in this season’s competition have come with under 2.5, with the latter stages expectantly close between better teams.

Juve are similar – very defensively minded, but off colour recently with losses to Parma and Torino. Both are conceding more recently, but that is more because they are so confident going forward. They have conceded 3 in 5 home games this season, and 2 of those were against Olympiakos.

Team news is looking like so – no Benzema for Real, as he has not recovered from injury yet. Bar that, a fully fit squad. There is nothing to suggest Juve will be at anything less than full strength, with Pirlo and Chiellini rested on the weekend.

As mentioned – this will be a close game in my opinion, with one goal likely to separate it – for this game I like the following tips:

1. Real Madrid win @ 8/5

2. Real Madrid Win + Under 2.5 Goals @ 15/4

Barcelona v Bayern

This will be some game! Great football from both expected. Pep Guardiola obviously used to manage the Catalan club, and had many a year of success as player and manager. Barca have improved drastically over the last few months after it looked like Luis Enrique would get the sack – and are favourites for this tie.

Barcelona have won 9/10 games in this season’s competition (a loss to PSG back in the group stage) and score plenty of goals. Most have not challenged their back four. 5 wins from 5 at home, two conceded…looking good for them!

Bayern have struggled away from home, with 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw. They always seem to concede, including 3 in the last game vs Porto (away leg, that is). However they always find a way through!

Team news – Bayern could still be potentially missing Robben and Ribery, which will seriously impact their chances – although both are unquestionably cheats, they are very good players. They rested a lot of players on the weekend in a 2-0 loss to Leverkusen, so they should be fresh, that is who is left fit. Barca are at full fitness – no reports yet of players missing for wednesday.

As for bets – these are two I fancy:

1. Under 10 corners @ 11/10

2. Barcelona Win + BTTS @ 5/2

These two play very possessive football, rarely shooting unless there is a real possiblity of scoring. Because of that, there are very few corners. Even when winning 8-0 on the weekend, Barca had 8 corners. Bayern are similar – do not have a lot of corners. In Barca’s 2 legged tie with PSG, there were 6 and 8 corners, in Bayern’s 2 games with Porto there were 5 and 9 corners. Even when in domination mode, both keep the ball and shift around – and either get a shot on goal and score, or lose the ball in a tackle.

Europa League preview will be a up in a short while – and tips for the combined/daily shortly after that!

Best of luck
