Champions League Preview

Afternoon all

This is just a look into the next 2 days’ worth of games – Barcelona vs Bayern tonight and Real Madrid vs Juventus. Both games have different situations – Bayern really need to chase the game, while not conceding another, otherwise they need 5 goals if they concede 1! While in the Real-Juve game, a simple 1 goal victory for Real would see them qualify. First up tonight – Bayern vs Barcelona:

Bayern Munich vs Barcelona (1945 KO)

Bayern go into this on the back of four straight losses, and missing key players. Alaba and Badstuber remain sidelined. Barca are at full strength – and managed to rest 5 players on the weekend. Barca have kept 7 straight clean sheets in the league, but this is a different kettle of fish – but saying that in the last 5 meetings between the two, none have been BTTS! For that reason BTNTS @ 6/4 looks value – but too risky for my liking.

On the goalscorer front, since Jamie is very busy at the moment with exams and what not – I fancy the following:

  • Messi to score anytime + Barcelona win in 90 minutes @ 3/1 or FGS + Win in 90 @ 7/1
  • Messi and Lewandowski  both to score in 90 minutes @ 9/2

One of my four tips today is probably my favourite for this game – Bayern Over 2.5 Cards @ Evs. Corners served us well last time, but this time we feel cards are on the cards…I can’t see Bayern getting near winning this tie, so I get a feeling there will be a few niggly tackles flying in from the likes of Dante, Schweinsteiger and Alonso during the game. With the pace of Barca’s front line, and a little of their diving capability, I can see plenty of cards!

Real Madrid vs Juventus (1945 KO, Wednesday)

Juventus are very poor away at the moment, but have Paul Pogba back. At the Santiago Bernabeu, Real will be massive favourites, as well as having incredible form there. Juve have lost to Parma and Torino recently, and even drew on the weekend – but rested plenty of players. Real also rested a few, and ended up drawing with Sevilla 2-2.

Something I have picked up on is penalties! In the last 3 games between them, there has been a penalty – which is at a good price of 11/4. Another bet I fancy is Red Card @ 2/1 – I think tempers will flare in such a close game, and with defenders like Pepe, Ramos, Chiellini and Vidal on the pitch – and fast attackers like Tevez, Ronaldo, Bale and Rodriguez, you can see the bookings pile up. 7 in the first leg, I fancy more this time!

On the goalscorers front, Ronaldo + Win in 90 mins @ 6/4 looks value, while Tevez + Ronaldo A/T in 9 mins is 6/1 in the William Hill specials. For me, the best value tip I can see is:

  • Number of Goals in Match – 2 or 3 @ Evens
  • Penalty Awarded @ 11/4
  • Red Card @ 2/1

The last 2 meetings have ended 2-1, and quite frankly Real + BTTS is a good bet and something that would take the game to extra time.

Best of luck!
