Euro 2016 Tips // Quarter Finals

Well. England, what can I say! As well as blowing my accumulator, they also embarrassed a nation once again. Hodgson has gone, thank the lord!

With that, the last 8 is confirmed. Poland vs Portugal, Wales vs Belgium, Germany vs Italy and France vs Iceland. Two debutants in the last 8 – who’d have thought it!

I’m away this week, so these will be my only four tips. With the media reaction likely to be huge, leaving England seems a good idea…

Poland vs Portugal: Portugal Win @ 5/4 (Thursday, 2000 KO)

The first quarter final is Poland vs Portugal. Neither have looked great so far, but both have just about got through and neither have lost yet. Portugal beat a very handy Croatia side, while Poland won on penalties vs Switzerland. It could be a poor game, both are failing to take chances. Portugal have the chance to go very far now, and I think overall they are the better side.

I fancy them to shade this, and at 5/4 a decent price.

Wales vs Belgium: Belgium Over 1.5 Team Goals @ 1/1 (Friday, 2000 KO)

These two met in the qualifying stages, and Wales came off better – taking 4 points from the 6 on offer. However, Belgium have found form, while Wales have looked pretty average, but fortunate to have an easy route so far. Slovakia, Russia and Ireland were all very poor – against a better team I think they may come unstuck. With Hazard on song, Lukaku holding it up nicely as well as a strong back four – I like Belgium, and fancy them to make the final.

One goal in the first 60 will draw Wales out, or even if they go behind – they have the quality that Wales lack in their back 3/5.

Germany vs Italy: Under 1.5 Goals @ 11/8 (Saturday, 2000 KO)

This has 1-0 written all over it. Best two defences in the competition (I think) – Germany yet to concede while Italy have kept clean sheets in 3 of their 4 so far – and played Belgium and Spain! I think both will struggle to break each other down, leading to either extra time or a one goal win for either. Italy were very unfancied at the start, but have really earned their way through the stages with fantastic performances. Germany were 2nd favourite, and have only enhanced that feeling among punters and bookies alike.

This should be a cracking game, but low scoring.

France vs Iceland: BTTS @ 6/4 (Sunday, 2000 KO)

France have looked shaky at the back so far – conceding to Romania, very nearly to Albania and also to Ireland. Adil Rami is suspended, as is N’golo Kante. The likely replacements are Mangala and someone like Sissoko – both not as strong/good as the others. Iceland proved tonight they can mix it up – playing England off the park without looking too nervy. Their long throws into the box will cause mayhem, and like Ireland, they will give the hosts a real run for their money!

Despite most of their players being from lower leagues around Europe, they perform as a team and were fantastic – no England fan can deny they deserved it!

This pays around 25/1 with Bet365

Best of luck
