European Leagues // Preview + Tips

Last weekend was a frustrating one – a lot of teams under performing, with a couple of baffling results!

This weekend, with Kieron’s selections covering only Saturday – most of mine will be looking towards Sunday. There is one game in particular that I think is terrific value on Saturday that will make it into the weekend accumulator though…and if their early form is anything to go by, they are worth sticking with this season!

Degerfors vs Sirius (Swedish Superettan, 1500 KO – Saturday)

Sirius are the in form team in Swedish football at the moment – top of their league, with 8 wins in their last 9 games – including 5 by -1 or better. Last time out against the same outfit, they won 6-0, and with Kapcevic and Bjorkebaum having 21 goals between them this season, they will be full of confidence. I went with the same bet last weekend and they duly obliged, winning 2-0 with Kapcevic and Bjorkebaum grabbing a goal apiece.

The two bets that stand out for me, in terms of value of medium and high risk bets lie in the handicaps. -1 Asian Handicap is 7/5, while a straight -1 Handicap is 2/1 and will only drop. They are actually 5/6 to win which is incredible!

Best bet is the -1 Asian Handicap @ 7/5, and for Saturday’s high risk double – 2/1 for the straight -1 Handicap

Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid (La Liga, 1915 KO – Sunday)

Real start the season with Ronaldo and Benzema, but with the likes of Bale and Morata waiting in the wings, I don’t think they will face too many problems against a Sociedad side missing Inigo Martinez – their star centre back.

With Lucas Vasquez likely to fill the void left by Ronaldo, and Morata the place of Benzema, for me they are more a team as Ronaldo is often extremely greedy. Beneath that, you have the likes of Kovacic improving all the time, and Casemiro has also come on leaps and bounds since his loan spell to Porto – and the ever present Toni Kroos.

Danilo and Marcelo provide excellent attacking intent and width, but with it being an away game Carvajal might well get the nod over him.

My bet of choice for this one is also an Asian Handicap of -1 @ 13/10

Pescara vs Napoli (Serie A, 1400 KO – Sunday)

Newly promoted Pescara face a Napoli side full of attacking threat, and defensive quality.

In their ranks – the likes of Insigne, Callejon, Hamsik, Koulibaly and new signing Arkadiusz Milik – Gonzalo Higuain’s replacement from Ajax. They have been in the top couple for the last few seasons and with an all-round quality team have the mettle to trouble even the best teams!

Even with new signing Tonelli missing – they should have plenty to beat a Pescara side who went down without a fight last time they were in the league a few seasons ago! Looking through their squad – and the most notable players are Robert Muric, who has just been signed from Ajax, and Bryan Cristante – a loan signing from Benfica, formerly of AC Milan.

I can’t see them causing Napoli too many problems – for the sake of this bet, it should be a case of how many Napoli can score!

Hammarby vs Goteborg (Swedish Allsvenskan, 1400 KO – Sunday)

This is certainly going to be a high risk bet for the weekend – Goteborg + BTTS @ 7/2, with both teams high scoring (both scored over 30 in 18 games) while Goteborg have conceded 25, and Hammarby 33.

In Goteborg’s last 10 games away, they have scored in 9 and conceded in 8 – 5 wins in total, but a big factor has been the Europa League – the did play in it Thursday, but at home – no real amount of travel.

For a medium risk bet – Goteborg to score 2 or more @ 11/10 looks good value – even if drawing or losing they have often scored 2
