So – round 28 of the Premier League fixtures, and it’s full of battles up and down the league! Arsenal slipped up against Man Utd at the weekend – and with Spurs coming from behind and Leicester leaving it late – there is a 5 point gap between 1st and 3rd. At the other end Villa, Sunderland, Palace, Newcastle and Norwich are all struggling – with Pardew’s men quickly sliding down the league. Either way – this round throws up some interesting games.
Below is my 10 game preview of Tuesday and Wednesday’s games – with my top four selections for an accumulator at the bottom.
Villa vs Everton: Everton -1 Goal Asian Handicap @ 5/4
Villa may have won a couple of their last home games – but in reality they have beaten poor Norwich and Palace sides who are getting beaten by most. Against an Everton side who have lost once away all season – they might find it tough. Lukaku will bully their weak back four, while the likes of Ross Barkley and Aaron Lennon should create plenty going forward. Much like the Liverpool game, I feel this could go horribly wrong for the Midlands side, and with the Asian Handicap being a great price, I’ve gone for an option with a little safety.
Bournemouth vs Southampton: Southampton Win @ 8/5
Bournemouth have struggled at home of late – losing 3 of their last 4 games. They are conceding 2’s and 3’s, whilst not really troubling the scorers. Southampton have just ended an incredible run of 6 games without conceding – but have taken 7 points from 9 away. I think they will be back to normal today. A forsee a close encounter with possibly one goal settling it in favour of the Saints.
Leicester vs WBA: Leicester Over 1.5 Team Goals @ 5/6
Leicester were run close by Norwich on the weekend, and won’t want to leave it so late again today. WBA beat Palace (like everyone is) but conceded two 2nd half goals and looked shakey at the back throughout. With Leicester having some of the pressure eased by Arsenal losing – I think that today, they will step it up a gear and with Kante out, the onus will be on others to perform. Mahrez and Vardy have been quiet of late, but they and the likes of Okazaki should be the difference. Leicester to score two or more @ 5/6 the tip in this one.
Norwich vs Chelsea: Chelsea -1 Goal Asian Handicap @ 23/20
This is amazing value! Norwich look frail at the back and not great at the other end either. Chelsea have found some form, and with the likes of Willian on fire – I can see them grabbing this game by the scruff and really giving Norwich a hiding. At worst, a one goal win in my opinion – so thanks to their early season form, the bookies are giving better prices on them meaning the Asian Handicap is over 1/1! Last season, a regular handicap in this sort of game was likely to be around that!
Sunderland vs Palace: BTTS + Over 2.5 Goals @ 7/5
This is a game of two out of form teams. Both have around 50/50 records for this market in recent times, but both have dangerous attacking players such as Defoe, Lens, Wickham, Zaha and more. Wickham should be pretty motivated against his old club, and with 2 goals against WBA is in good form. Both also have shocking defences, so it will be a shootout for who can score the most. Both need the win, so it should be very open.
Tuesday Double: Chelsea -1 Goal Asian Handicap & Everton -1 Goal Asian Handicap @ 3.8/1
Arsenal vs Swansea: Arsenal -1 Goal @ 21/20
Arsenal now need wins, and fast. Anymore slip-ups and they are out of it completely, and with City in 4th breathing down their necks – and having a game in hand, this game is pivotal. Swansea have improved under Guidolin, but still look uncomfortably poor at the back, and lacking end product going forward. Arsenal should pass them off the pitch, and pick them off over the course of the 90. Welbeck is back and looking in good form, and with the likes of Ozil and Sanchez providing – I think the Gunners will win comfortably. 3-0.
Stoke vs Newcastle: Stoke Over 1.5 Team Goals @ 1/1
Stoke face a Newcastle side massively out of form when it comes to away games. In their 14 away games, 8 times they have shipped 2 or more, with more than 3 coming regularly. When an early goal goes in, they seem to give up. With defensive issues and injuries, this could be a first half winner the way they play! Stoke on the other hand have hit 2 or more in 8/16 home games in all competitions – and won 3 of their last 5, including a 2-0 win over Man Utd. Shaqiri and co will give them a torrid time I feel, and an easy win the likely result.
West Ham vs Tottenham: BTTS + Over 2.5 Goals @ 13/10
Tottenham are on a great winning run, but keep conceding silly goals. They are two points off the top spot, and know Leicester have an easier game the day before they face their London rivals. Kane is playing with a mask after breaking his nose, but put in an admirable performance on Sunday, which bodes well. West Ham have found form since the return of midfield maestro Dmitri Payet, and with his set piece nouse, and the pace and power of their frontline – I feel both will score and one will find a winner.
Liverpool vs Man City: Man City Win @ 17/10
This is a rematch of the Capital One Cup final three day ago. City won on penalties, which will give them the psychological edge. With Kompany back, Caballero unstoppable and Aguero nearing his best – I think this time round the shackles will be off and City will demolish an often-iffy Liverpool back four, with Simon Mignolet the clown in the gloves. At this rate, City might need to get through the qualification phases of the Champions League next season – so with a game in hand over Arsenal, a win is imperative.
Man Utd vs Watford: BTTS @ 11/10
The last game of the week see’s a youthful Man Utd take on Watford. After scoring 8 in their last two, many will see this as an easy win, but Man Utd no longer work that way. It would be typical of them to beat Arsenal, but struggle against Watford. Ighalo and Deeney are a deadly duo that a mish-mash of Man Utd 1st team players and youngsters will have to put up with, and although I do see the home side winning, I don’t see them keeping out the Hornets.
Wednesday Double: Stoke Over 1.5 Team Goals & Man City Win @ 4/1
Accumulator @ 25/1
- Everton -1 Goal Asian Handicap @ 5/4
- Chelsea -1 Goal Asian Handicap @ 23/20
- Stoke Over 1.5 Team Goals @ 1/1
- Man City Win @ 17/10
Last weekend’s accumulator won, all be it as a treble as an Asian Handicap pick voided. 7/1 it paid, but hoping for bigger and better this midweek. So far, since starting these previews I have picked 11 wins from 16, with two voids. Over 65% and much more like it!
Best of luck
