Over the summer we did a piece on the best free bets around (whether it be matched first deposits/bets when signing up or completely free – ala SkyBet or BetFred) – obviously with so little sport on it may have gone amiss, so a few months into the season we will re-cap our top 5 free bets, and also the 2 to stay well clear of.
William Hill – William Hill claim to be the home of betting, and it seems they are not lying – Around 26% of all betting accounts online in England and Ireland are with the Betting Giants. They offer a £25 matched first bet as well as Acca Insurance should 1 team in the 6 fold accumulator let you down, however terms do apply. Their customer service is very good, I myself have been with them for 2 years and any problem has been resolved in good time. Their security is brilliant, even when logged in card security will stop the wrong people, and when you ask them account related questions they ask for security answers to pre-set questions only you will have set up when creating the account. In terms of odds they offer the fairest all round – you may find a better price elsewhere but on the whole they are best. You do not get the free stake back, but simple terms are offered, minimum odds of 1/5 and it is withdraw-able once bet once. Best of all with them is the variety of live streaming – sign in and you can watch games from Holland, Portugal, Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela, Ukraine, Germany, Russia and more! Their App is available on all phone platforms (bar Windows Phones) and is excellent and user friendly. Cash-Out is another handy feature – the cash out values are fair and reflect the situation in play well, and periods where it is not available is well documented in t’s and c’s.
Bet365 – Bet365 offer an incredibly generous bonus of £200 when you join and deposit (Max £200), and you get the stake back – though terms apply, you have to bet the combined amount 3 times over (Upto £1200) at odds of 1/2 or over (any other bet at prices below those odds do not count towards the staked amount). Their website is not as good as William Hill, but their customer support is better than WH.
TitanBet – Although not a household name, TitanBet is an up and coming brand. They offer a £25 matched first bet when signing up and generous odds on all markets, for which simple terms apply.
SkyBet – SkyBet, along with William Hill are one of the leaders in this market. The give you a £20 matched bet, no minimum odds. They also have a Free Bet Club – once you opt in and place a £5 accumulator bet over 5/1, each week, as long as you place the £5 bet, you receive a free £5 bet the following monday. Should you not place one the following week you must place a £10 bet to re-join, and thereafter it will revert to £5 5/1 Accumulators to get the bet. Odds vary, you get some that are better than competitors, others are not, as with most gambling sites.
BetFred -When you sign up you get a matched first bet up to £25 (Has to be Evens or above), Simple terms, no stake-back but withdraw-able immeidately. Great customer service, and very good security (Don’t bother trying to fool them if you are under-age, they have stringent checks!)
BetFred and SkyBet offered a free £10 bet when signing up but we believe the offer has finished recently. All 5 give you instant bet confirmation, settle quickly and have a good selection of in-play betting.
William Hill and Bet365 offer a great variety of live streaming, which when you think for something like Sky it can cost £40 a month for endless amounts of channels – you get regular live football for nothing! The following are sites to avoid:
Betway – You may get your stake back, and an matched first bet up-to £50, but your original deposit + bonus must be gambled 10 times over, so possibly £1000. Minimum odds are 3/4, terms are very complicated and you cannot win more the £2000 off a free bet, so if your £50 on a 100/1 shot and won, you’d only get £2000, dreadful really. Only one free bet is allowed per household, so if like me you have several betting siblings only one of you can sign up and get the bonus. Quite frankly, through experience, you are better off going through one of the main bookies – they are much fairer, have better sites and are easier to contact (I once had to wait three hours to speak with an advisor!)
188 Bet – One of the lesser known bookmakers but a bookmaker none the less. You get a decent deposit bonus, but have to put in £10 before you can even look at odds. The free bet is dependent on whether you’re first bet loses, if it doesn’t the amount is reduced, and the bet could take upto a week to be credited (appallingly slow). Site is pretty poor, better to go with a well known up market bookmaker.
Others such as Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Betfair etc all have their merits, but are not good enough to break into our top 5 or bad enough to be worth going into in depth – nothing wrong with them, all stakes are non-refundable, simple terms – settled quickly.
We hope this helps any prospective gamblers, we have had an account with all of these at some point and have done the groundwork for you! It is why we are here, to help as many people make bets safe in the knowledge they will not be shafted by the small print that is so well hidden behind an asterisk.
