Midweek Preview // EFL Cup

A mixed weekend – a poor Saturday, with 1 win in 4 tips, followed by a very good Sunday – 3 wins from 4, and only a goal off a 25/1 accumulator win!

There is a lot of action over the next two days, both domestically and abroad – but for the purpose of quality over quantity – I’m sticking with the EFL Cup as I feel the predictability is higher than in some of the foreign leagues

Derby vs Liverpool: Liverpool -1 Goal Handicap @ 21/20 (1945 KO)

Liverpool have had a good start – unbeaten, and looking very good on the front foot! Klopp is looking to rotate his team, and with that the likes of Emre Can, Lorius Karius, Danny Ings, Divock Origi and Marko Grujic are likely to come into the frame to start – Grujic being one hell of a talent!

Derby are struggling in the Championship, so could well rotate as well. Even with the game at Pride Park, I can only see Liverpool’s winning mentality take another win, and a handsome one at that!

Notts Forest vs Arsenal: Arsenal -1 Goal Handicap @ 11/8 (1945 KO)

Arsene Wenger is certainly one that likes a change or ten when it comes to the Cup – a few years ago he used it exclusively to play his up and coming starts like Cesc Fabregas and Fran Merida!

Against a Forest team who can’t seem to keep the scoreline down, I think he will take it a bit more seriously than he used to, with the likes of David Ospina, Rob Holding, Gabriel, Kieran Gibbs, Mo Elneny, Alex Iwobi, Oxlade Chamerlain and new signing Perez likely to get some game time. Mustafi could also feature since he is very new to the league – while Sanchez, Cech, Koscielny and Xhaka should be rested.

I fancy a high scoring game – Arsenal taking advantage of defensively frailty in the Forest backline.

Newcastle vs Wolves: BTTS + Over 2.5 Goals @ 13/10 (1945 KO)

These two met at the weekend – and Wolves stunned the Northern side with a 2-0 win! As a fan, what I can tell you about Newcastle is that Benitez likes a change or three – not keeping the same team so far, and had a reputation at Liverpool for the same thing.

Mitrovic and maybe Daryl Murphy should feature Tuesday, alongside the likes of Yedlin, Lazaar, Atsu and maybe Hanley/Clark, as well as Karl Darlow. He hates losing, so will flex his squad muscles and even though I think Wolves might do similar – they have Newcastle’s number – and I fancy both to score in this one and maybe the home side to take their cup run one round further!

West Ham vs Accrington: West Ham Over 2.5 Team Goals @ 1/1 (1945 KO)

West Ham have had a poor start, and although having two players topping the Premier League scoring/assist charts, they are in the bottom three and conceding heavily! 4 to WBA was shocking – they seemed too focused on attacking!

Against an average Accrington side, on their home ground – I feel the likes of Calleri, Feghouli and Tore will come in and tear them a new one, so to speak. 3 goals at home, against a League Two side – that’s the least they will be hoping for!

Swansea vs Man City: Man City -1 Goal Handicap @ 5/4 (1945 KO)

Man City have already showed their class this season – on a winning run, and even without Sergio Aguero are still beating sides no problem! This is the final game of his suspension, but Kelechi Iheanacho is likely to start, alongside Leroy Sane – which has been confirmed by Guardiola.

He is likely to mix it up a little, so I’m expecting the likes of Caballero, Toure, Delph and Adarabioyo to start – even a few of the Spaniards they have such as Garcia and Angelino too. Swansea are also likely to change a few players around, give some fringe members of the squad a game – but either way, City should have too much.

Fulham vs Bristol City: BTTS + Over 2.5 Goals @ 6/5 (1945 KO)

Fulham were flying high a few weeks ago – 2nd in the league having beaten the likes of Newcastle. However, a loss and 2 draws on – they have slipped down the league a little – with just 8 goals scored and 6 conceded all season (8 games). City on the other hand have been up and down, and in 8 games have conceded 11 and scored 12!

Both are looking to rotate a little, and with it being a cup game I can see it being a little looser.

All six together in an accumulator pays around 110/1!
