This Holland team is the weakest I have seen in many years. There are way too many players in there that are having more bad days than good at the moment, with several playing in a poor league. With Chile and Spain in Group B alongside them, there is a good chance they will exit early.
GK’s: Jasper Cillessen, Tim Krul, Michel Vorm
DF’s: Daley Blind, Joel Veltman, Stefan de Vrij, Daryl Janmaat, Terence Kongolo, Bruno Martins Indi, Paul Verhaegh, Ron Vlaar
MF’s: Jordy Clasie, Jonathan de Guzman, Nigel de Jong, Leroy Fer, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Georginio Wijnaldum
FW’s: Memphis Depay, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Dirk Kuyt, Jeremain Lens, Robin van Persie
Holland dominated their group, despite it being one of the tougher ones, compared to others. They faced stern tests in Turkey, Romania and Hungary as well as Estonia who can be very resistant. 9 wins and the draw gave them a total of 28 points, scoring 34 and conceding just 5.
Ones to Watch:
Memphis Depay – a regular for PSV, this youngster has burst onto the International scene, and with his skill and directness when dribbling at speed, and beating defenders, We can really see him starting! Definitely one to watch in Brazil, especially with new Man Utd boss Louis Van Gaal coaching him – he could well earn himself a move to the Red Devils.
Bruno Martins-Indi – The Feyenoord Centre Back has been impressive this season, and earned himself a starting spot in the Dutch setup during Qualifying. With very little quality in defence, he is almost a cert to start. Big man, very strong, quick and good from corners. Keep an eye on him!
Robin Van Persie – RVP looks likely to start up front in a 3 man attack likely to feature Arjen Robben and Depay, and with Klass Jan Huntelaar waiting in the wings he will have to perform from the first minute. If the Dutch are to progress, he will have to be lethal.
(4-2-3-1): Cillessen, Janmaat, De Vrij, Martins-Indi, Blind, N De Jong, Clasie, Depay, Sneijder, Robben, RVP.
A good looking lineup, but far from perfect. With Maarten Stekelenburg dropped for the in-form trio of Krul, Vorm and Cillessen – any of the three could start. We are going with Ajax’s stopper Cillessen, pretty much as an educated guess as Krul has been off colour for the final few months, and Vorm has had his share of injuries. The rest is good – Clasie is the perfect ball playing midfielder, alongside hard-man De Jong. Depay should start over the likes of Lens, who is playing in Ukriane – as he has much more to offer and is an out-and-out winger, not a converted striker. RVP will start over Huntelaar – sheerly on his reputation, and is the more complete striker.
Winner – 28/1
Group Winner – 9/4
To Qualify – 4/6
Stage of Elimination: Group – 11/8
Under 5.5 Group Points – Evens
Despite the quality up front, we feel it will be the defence that ultimately costs them. There is no world-class defender – no Jaap Stam. With Chile in the group, who can literally beat anybody on their day, we think Holland will be the big side to head home early, 11/8 is a top price! Our Top Tip for Holland is Under 5.5 Points at Evens!
