Continuing on from our first piece earlier today, we resume with Group E.
France, even without Grenier and Ribery – should win this Group. Switzerland are their main threat but Ecuador and Honduras have defensive issues and shouldn’t pose much of a threat, but equally have to be treated with some respect. Group Winner is 4/5, and Over 6.5 Points is 6/5. We think they will beat Ecuador and Honduras comfortably and either win or draw against Switzerland.
Switzerland are also favourites to qualify, and at 8/13 they are great value. Our other Tip is their Total Points – we think they will defeat Honduras, either draw or beat Ecuador and lose to France – so 4 or 6 points. 4 Points is trading @ 11/4, 6 Points @ 7/2. We really do think it will be either of those two!
Ecuador drew against a decent England team around a week ago, and demonstrated some excellent attacking player. However, England took them apart at the back several times and made them look average. France and Switzerland are better than England, and will know about these weaknesses. They may well beat Honduras, but they will more than likely not qualify – 4/7 to exit at the group stage, and 4/7 for Under 3.5 Points.
Honduras, we are hoping, do not continue their insistence to kick lumps out of opposition, as they did in Miami against England. They will be going out, and are 4/9 to finish bottom, which is great value! Under 1.5 Points is currently at 8/11, which is also a great price!
Our Straight Forecast is France (1st), Switzerland (2nd) – 5/2
Argentina should win the group with ease, with 3 wins out of three I think. That is 9 points, and trading at 5/4 on William Hill. Over 6.5 Goals is also a good market, and at 4/5. We can see them getting 3+ against Iran, and at least two against the other two sides. 3+ in each game is a special market on Will Hill and is currently 11/1.
Bosnia are at their first World Cup, and we really think they will beat Iran and Nigeria and Qualify for the knock-out phase. 4/5 to Qualify is a good price for an Acca, and 4 or 6 points (9/4 and 4/1) are also great markets to look into! Our Top Tips for them.
Nigeria, under Stephen Keshi, did very poorly last time, not gaining a point. This time they have a more experienced squad, but again will probably fail, although should beat Iran. Group Exit is 8/13 and Under 3.5 Points is 4/5.
Iran are a very defensive side, with full backs rarely venturing beyond the halfway line. They mainly play a sort of kick-and-rush tactic, relying on one or two players like Dejagah and Nekounam. They should exit and get well beaten by Argentina and Bosnia, and maybe even Nigeria. 0 points is at 5/2, and Under 1.5 is 8/11 – but to finish bottom is 1/2.
Straight Forecast – Argentina (1st), Bosnia (2nd) – 11/10
Germany are hot favourites to win their group, and at 8/15 it’s a good price. Over 6.5 Points is @ 7/10 – and with USA, Ghana and Portugal, they should get that many points, we think 7 or 9. 1/10 to qualify, possibly one to bulk up an Acca.
Portugal go into the tournament with Ronaldo not fully fit, but on the back of a 5-1 win against Ireland. They are being seriously underestimated, and that is when they are at their most dangerous. To Qualify is 4/9, and Over 5.5 Points is currently Evens. Both top prices and ones to go into the Accumulators.
Ghana reached the Quarter Finals four years ago, losing out to Uruguay in an act of the most disgusting cheating in years. This group may be a little beyond them, but should defeat USA. Over 2.5 Points is 8/13 and exactly 3 points is 3/1.
USA have drawn one of the most difficult groups this year, and will not doubt go home after the Group Stage. They are 10/11 to finish bottom, which we like a lot, and Evens to get under 2.5 Points – we see them ending with 0 points which is 4/1.
Straight Forecast – Germany (1st), Portugal (2nd) – 11/8
Belgium should win their group and are 4/7 to do just that. Algeria, Russia and South Korea are no pushovers, but Belgium should have too much for all three, and our prediction is over 6.5 Points @ Evens. 7 or 9 points a real possibility.
Russia are the other side in the group we fancy to qualify @ 1/2. They should have more than enough for Korea and Algeria. Capello’s side are very well drilled and the only team in Brazil with all players from one leauge.
South Korea reached a semi final in the past 12 years, losing to Spain (2006 if I am correct). Times have passed by, and their squad isn’t the best out there. They have a small chance, but we doubt they will get more than 3 points (Under 3.5 tipped @ 5/6). Group Elimination is another favourite of ours @ 4/11.
Algeria have turned a corner since South Africa, with new coach Vahid Halihodzic doing a tremendous job. Old players have gone and new younger players have come in, who are playing for some of Europes’ best club. They may take a point or two, but won’t qualify. 4th in Group H is 4/6 and Under 2.5 Points is 10/11. 0 or 1 points are 4/1 and 5/2.
Straight Forecast – Belgium (1st), Russia (2nd) – 13/8
