Despite there being some decent football on this week, I felt it was largely avoidable. A lot of cup games, and plenty of poor weather around Europe. Tuesday’s matches were going so well – Copenhagen won to nil as tipped, Newcastle dominated the whole game but could not find a breakthrough and eventually it cost them – losing on penalties!
Today I have three games that I think are very good value:
N Forest vs Newcastle: BTTS + Over 2.5 Goals @ 8/5 (Championship, 1945 KO)
With Newcastle now out of the EFL Cup, full focus switches to the Championship, and after two losses in a row Benitez will be fuming. A full strength side, with a possible few changes from Tuesday is expected and against one of the worst defences in the league, they should go back to winning ways. Forest are no mugs going forward, with 32 scored – the highest behind Newcastle. They have hit a patch of form of late, two wins in a row including a 5-2 win over Barnsley.
Jong PSV vs Achilles: Jong PSV -1 Goal Handicap @ 1/1 (Dutch Erste, 1900 KO)
PSV had won 7 in a row at home (7/7) this season, until Monday where they had an off day against Top Oss. Today, with more players available (PSV’s senior side had taken some over last weekend so they could not play Monday) they should be back to normal, and against the bottom side in the league.
Maritimo vs Benfica: Benfica Win to Nil @ 6/5 (Portuguese Primeira, 2030 KO)
Here you have two magnificent defences – Benfica have only conceded 5 all season, while Maritimo have conceded just 9, but only scored 6. The handicaps seem a good idea, but the home side base themselves around a sterling back four, and with only 9 conceded in 12 (and just four in five at home) they will be hard to break down. Benfica are free scoring at times, but have let us down on the handicaps many times. Win to nil looks the best option @ 6/5
The treble pays around 11/1.
Best of luck!
