So! The big kickoff is finally here!
The Football League kicks off tonight, with Newcastle travelling to Craven Cottage to tackle Fulham, and with Ross McCormack leaving days before the game, and the squad suffering from a virus – it is unclear exactly who Fulham will start! We start with that game in our first tip of the day:
Fulham vs Newcastle: Newcastle Win @ 1/1 (Championship, 1945 KO – NAP)
This is the obvious choice. Newcastle are at full strength, bar Siem de Jong who is always injured, and Alexandar Mitrovic who is always suspended, so it doesn’t really count. They are high on confidence, with a new number 9 in Dwight Gayle and a new captain in Jamaal Lascelles. With 8 new signings, they are high on quality – add in who was left and you have a team with a cracking squad, a world class manager and fan-base behind them!
It should be a packed stadium, and if the away side start well I can see them bagging 2-3 goals. Fulham as mentioned are a side we are not so sure of yet – it depends on who has recovered from the virus that’s been spreading around their camp. With Ross Mac, Moussa Dembele and a few others leaving, they might be a little goal-shy – Cauley Woodrow their main man I’d think. Sone Aluko is someone that can cause problems – but with a back four likely to be made up of Janmaat, Lascelles, Hanley (Mbemba is doubtful) and either Paul Dummett/Jesus Gamez – there is a lot of experience, which could really help keep them out.
Either way – I see a win for Newcastle @ 1/1
NAC Breda vs Jong Utrecht: NAC -1 Goal Handicap @ 4/5 (Dutch Erste, 1900 KO)
Last season, NAC looked as if they were breezing their way back to the Eredivisie. Scoring at nearly 3 goals per game at home, and over 2 goals per game away – they eventually messed it up in the playoffs against Willem, losing 4-3 on aggregate.
For this season, they have lost a couple of players, but replaced well via loans from Man City (Brandon Barker the big name) and a few youth players coming through, as well as a few players from Belgium who will add quality. Utrecht’s 2nd team have come up to make the league into a 20 teamer – expected to get hammered as it’s their first season and the quality of their 2nd string isn’t great by all accounts.
Win to Nil @ 5/4 is tempting – but one goal and you are knackered. HT-FT @ 4/5, as well as Over 2.5 Team Goals for NAC were considered, but the value for me is -1 @ 4/5. Expecting them to rack up the goals and not concede, so rather than risk one with higher odds, I have simply added a bet a touch below 1/1 to make the double pay around 2.6/1.
Best of luck for the day!
