3/6 overall in midweek – Dortmund -1 @ 1/1 winning easily (6-0), Napoli winning 2-1 @ 7/5 and Norwich + Over 2.5 also just about coming in, with a 2-1 @ 7/5. Two of the other three games were just a goal off, while Ronaldo scored 2nd after Sporting took a shock lead.
Thursday brings an end to the first set of European group games this season, and there are 24 games about – and plenty of value! With it being the first game there is a little uncertainty about who will rest who, but at this stage, an early win goes a long way so I’m inclined to think only those at the very top of their leagues will be rotating players since it’s so early in the season.
Young Boys vs Olympiakos: Olympiakos Win @ 5/4 (1800 KO – NAP)
Young Boys are a high scoring team, but of late have suffered quite a few injuries. Tonight, they will be missing around 7, and of those several are key players. Olympiakos are in their usual good form, and with no real injury worries, should win tonight in my opinion.
APOEL vs Astana: BTTS @ 5/4 (1800 KO)
Whenever I have seen either of these two in action over the last few seasons, they have always had the toughest of the tough to face. Very rarely have they had an evenly matched game, and on the odd occasion when they have, they have done well. Both are high scoring sides in their respective leagues, and both also concede the odd goal – well Astana lost 4-1 on the weekend…
I see this as quite an open game and an opportunity for them to gain early points. 11/5 is the price for BTTS + Over 2.5 Goals – but that is very high, BTTS a better value bet @ 5/4.
Feyenoord vs Man Utd: Man Utd Win + Over 2.5 Goals @ 15/8 (1800 KO)
This is one game where I see a team rotating – Man Utd and Mourinho are sore after their derby loss to City, so I can envisage the likes of Rashford, Depay, Smalling etc getting a chance. I don’t think there will be wholesale changes, but maybe the likes of Rooney and Ibrahimovic given a rest as they have played almost every minute of every game!
Panathinaikos vs Ajax: BTTS + Over 2.5 Goals @ 8/5 (2005 KO)
Both of these teams really aren’t what they used to be. Ajax were a regular Champions League group stage side, often going rounds beyond it! Now, they are 2nd fiddle to PSV in the Dutch league and struggling to get through the playoff rounds to even get into the Europa!
Both teams have iffy back fours’, but strong forward’s – Wakaso, Ibarbo and Berg three decent players in the Greek sides’ lineup, while you also have Essien, Chris Samba and Sebastian Leto. Ajax have a whole host of talent, but lack at the back – Hakim Ziyech scored 30 in 68 for Twente before moving this summer, while Bertrand Traore (another Chelsea loanee) scored 17 for Vitesse last season. Add in El-Ghazi, Amin Younes, Sinkgraven and Klaassen and you have a great forward lineup!
NAP: 1 @ 5/4
Double: 1 + 4 @ 5/1
Treble: 1, 3 + 4 @ 12/1
Accumulator: 1-4 @ 35/1
