With the Premier League set done – this is a mix of myself and Kieron’s picks for this weekend in the Football League:
Accrington vs Morecambe: BTTS @ 8/11 (1500 KO, League Two)
At the start of the season – you would have been forgiven for thinking that the table would be similar to last season after a few games – Morecambe struggling, Accrington going for the title. 4 games in, and its the opposite!
Morecambe have won 3/4 games, scoring 5 and conceding 3. BTTS of just 1/4, but Accrington are a strong team who have had a rough start. Stanley have played 4, and sit 18th – BTTS in 3 of their 4 games. Track record is good – the last 6 games have ended 2-2, 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 5-1 and 2-1.
Both played Wednesday night – Accrington taking Burnley to extra time before beating them, while Morecambe lost to Bournemouth in 90. Could that have an affect? 10/11 for the home win, but BTTS looks value @ 8/11
Newcastle vs Brighton: Brighton +1 Goal Handicap @ 4/6 (1730 KO, Championship)
Newcastle have looked decent so far – 2 wins, 2 losses – but clearly have issues. Defensively they are a bit wobbly – but with DeAndre Yedlin and potentially Achraf Lazaar joining as a RB and LB – they could be sorted soon. They are however missing both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle through concussion – both are fine, but the league rules state any player with such a condition cannot play for 6 days.
Brighton look very handy this season so far, with Anthony Knockaert their standout player! Given the above, and the fact that Newcastle will likely field Anita and Dummett as full backs – they will be two weak spots for me, with one possessing no pace, and the other little strength. Knockaert should have fun – and I believe Newcastle will struggle to keep them out, yet alone have the power to score given their missing men.
Blackburn vs Fulham: Fulham Over 1.5 Team Goals @ 21/20 (1500 KO, Championship)
Blackburn currently have the worst defensive record in the league having conceded 11 goals in four matches. Fulham come into this in decent form they currently sit eighth with eight points from a possible 12. Fulham have managed six goals in four games, scoring twice on two occasions. Blackburn have not been involved in a league game this season where they have conceded less than two goals. Fulham will want to keep up the momentum and they know they face a very very fragile Blackburn side who currently sit bottom.
The other thing is that Blackburn said they would not sell Hanley and Duffy – their two best defenders. Both have now been sold, leaving them very vulnerable at the back!
Shrewsbury V Gillingham – Over 2.5 Goals @ 1/1 (1500 KO, League One)
Three out of four of Gillingham’s matches have finished over 2.5 goals this season with two of Shrewsbury’s finishing in the same manner. Gillingham have found the net on six occasions so far and have conceded eight – five of which came last week at Scunthorpe. Shrewsbury have had a poor start to the season – taking only four points from a possible 12. They have only found the net on two occasions and have conceded five. Gillingham have to put last week behind them and prove it was a freak result, they should be far too strong for this Shrewsbury side and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them score three plus goals.
With that said Gillingham have proved on numerous occasions they have defensive frailties and Shrewsbury can definitely get on the score sheet.
The final piece of the weekends’ tips will come early tomorrow – an overall accumulator stating our favourite four bets for Saturday, with a 1-4 rating and overall accumulator price!
