Another week closer to the start of the season – and another set of Champions League and Europa League qualifying – some of the bigger boys start to enter from this point. In the Europa League we’ll see AC Milan, Marseille and Everton in action, while in the Champions League, the likes of Ajax, CSKA Moscow and Dynamo Kyiv enter the fray.
No such luck on the weekend – Spartak Moscow drawing was the final nail in the coffin, though Zilina losing the night before to newly promoted Nitra was shocking.
6 more selections for this midweek period, a mix of BTTS, match result and handicaps – and with the likes of AC Milan centre stage – we’d hope for a little more consistency!
The overall price is 20/1 – with games spanning Wednesday for the Champions League and Thursday for the Europa League.
Nice vs Ajax: BTTS @ 5/6 (Champions League 1945 KO)
H Beer Sheva vs Ludogorets: BTTS @ 10/11 (Champions League – 1800 KO)
CS Craiova vs AC Milan: AC Milan -1 Goal Handicap @ 4/6 (Europa League, 1900 KO)
D Bucharest vs Ath Bilbao: Bilbao Win @ 4/7 (Europa League, 1830 KO)
Arka vs Midtylland: Midtylland Win @ 8/11 (Europa League, 1900 KO)
Marseille vs Oostende: Marseille Win @ 4/11 (Europa League, 1945 KO)
This is my most confident Acca so far this season – mainly because of the larger sides involved – a little more predictable, playing some of Europes average second rate teams. CS Craiova for instance only qualified as CFR Cluj failed the FFP regs, hence CS taking their spot despite finishing 5th. AC have a side full of quality – its merely a case of putting it on the pitch and them gelling quickly. Even if they struggle, they should still win this fairly comfortably.
The two BTTS games in the Champions League are great prices – Nice last season were average in defence and having lost several players over the summer are somewhat weaker, and face an Ajax side who have just gained a certain Klass-Jan Huntelaar back from Schalke. Add in all of their talent that got them through to last seasons Europa League final and you have a cracking side capable of blasting most opponents out of the way!
Ludogorets and Beer Sheva are high scoring sides – the aggregates in their previous legs were both 5-3, conceding in both games. Bilbao are a quality side – and face another Romanian team, much better than Craiova, but still one very much beatable with 4/7 being a decent price.
To round it off, Midtylland play Arka – a mid to low table Polish side, and after 2 rounds the away side have scored 17 goals, hammering Cork and Ferencvaros in the process. Arka qualified on their cup performance – and finished around 13th in the table overall! Marseille similarly to AC Milan – had added well. A wealth of experience in the likes of Patrice Evra, Gustavo and Adil Rami, and then the young talents of Thauvin, Cabella, Sanson and N’Jie – and Dimtri Payet…nothing more be added there!
I’d advise backing early – AC Milan will only drop as they are backed more and more. Last week Graz were 4/5 at the time of posting, and by Wednesday night they had gone into 1/2. The handicap went from 2/1 to 6/4…which is a huge difference!
