From high to low…5/6 on the weekend, a goal off a 50/1 winner. Midweek, 1/6, with three ending 1-1, a 1-0 and a 0-0. What a contrast!
This weekend, the Football League restarts, and the beautiful thing in terms of Over 2.5 Goals is that nobody is sure what to expect from anyone. Blank slate…bookies are lost, and that means practically every game this weekend from Champ to L2 is around the Evens mark, if not over.
Once patterns start emerging, and we know who is where in terms of performance, the prices drop – but for now, they are sky high!
Here are my 6 games:
Sunderland vs Charlton: Over 2.5 Goals @ 1/1 (1230 KO, Saturday)
We start in League One where favourites for the league Sunderland face a resurgent Charlton under Lee Bowyer. Sunderland look strong, but not as strong at the back as some think. They should score for fun, Charlie Wyke a good signing for this level – but I’m not so sure about them at the back. Charlton have some decent players, the likes of Igor Vetokele – and should trouble Sunderland.
Portsmouth v Luton: Over 2.5 Goals @ 11/10 (1500 KO, Saturday)
Portsmouth are my pick for the top 6 @ 13/8 – maybe even the dark horse…but against Luton, I fancy goals. With an attacking trio of Brett Pitman, Jamal Lowe and Ronan Curtis I think they should fare well. In Danny Hylton, Elliot Lee and James Collins – Luton have three fantastic strikers to rely on. Hylton is a goal machine, will be interesting to see how he does at this level.
Peterborough vs Bristol Rovers: Over 2.5 Goals @ 3/4 (1500 KO, Saturday)
This is the lowest price of the lot. Peterborough always seem to find a quality striker – Jack Marriot the last, before that it was Connor Washington. Always get sold though. This time they have Jason Cummings on loan, who was prolific in Scotland, and Matt Godden, who was fantastic for Stevenage over the past 2 seasons. 30 in 75 isn’t a bad record! Rovers don’t look in great shape, but they have a knack for getting a goal. Were the best in the league for this market last season.
Bristol City vs Nottingham Forest: Over 2.5 Goals @ 21/20 (1500 KO, Saturday)
Forest have spent big thus far on a few Portuguese wonder kids, and add in some solid players like Jack Colback and they have a good side that look handy! City lost their star striker Reid to the PL/Cardiff – but have replaced well in Mo Eisa from Cheltenham. Have a strong squad, and I think this will have goals in it!
Notts County vs Colchester: Over 2.5 Goals @ 1/1 (1500 KO, Saturday)
County are my pick for the league this season – and although favourites, its for good reason. Quality manager, quality squad. Only got stronger, adding players such as Dennis who scored 19 in a relegated side, and Bolderwijn, who scored 10 for Crawley from the wing. Colchester had their moments last season, they may score – but its more likely County will get 3.
Coventry vs Scunthorpe: Over 2.5 Goals @ 23/20 (1500 KO, Saturday)
Coventry came up via the playoffs, and have added well. The highlight is Jordy Hiwula from Man City, who has scored 20+ in his last 2 seasons in League One with Bradford and Fleetwood. Scunthorpe were having a cracking season, but then went 8 without winning and sacked manager Graham Alexander – still finishing 5th. Josh Morris is their main man – scoring 30 goals for them in the past 2 seasons from left wing.
Overall – this pays 60/1 with Bet365.
Best of luck
