We are now into the 3rd week/game of the season, and it’s already been an intriguing start! Leicester have lost to Hull and drawn with Arsenal. Man Utd and Man City look the teams to beat, having both won both games and well!
Liverpool have gone to both extremes – beating Arsenal 4-3 but then losing 2-0 to newly promoted Burnley, despite having 81% possession and over 20 shots! Middlesbrough and Hull have impressed, not losing yet – Hull winning both games.
Either way, it’s made the betting side of things interesting. Going into this weekend, between myself and Kieron – we have a selection of tips from the Premier League – and will continue to focus on English football for a while on weekends as the European scene is very unpredictable at the current time.
Watford vs Arsenal: Arsenal Over 5.5 Corners @ 4/5 (1500 KO)
Arsenal have a good record against Watford, but at this stage – I don’t trust them enough. One thing that is certain – it is that Arsenal always seem to get a fair few corners!
7 corners vs Leicester, and 5 vs Liverpool so far this season. In their three meetings last season, Arsenal scored a total of 8, 7 and 9 – even if dominating or losing, which they did both of. They are likely to have a lot of the ball – and create plenty of pressure. Corners are an inevitability.
Spurs vs Liverpool: Spurs Over 5.5 Corners @ 4/5 (1230 KO)
Spurs are another who rack up corners, and with the physical presence of both Kane and Janssen, the free kick ability of Christian Eriksen and the long distance shooting of the likes of Delle Alli – adding in Liverpool’s defensive frailties – I believe Spurs will both score plenty of goals and rack up 7-9 corners.
In their last 5 meets, Spurs have hit 9, 8, 7, 7 and 7 against Liverpool, as well as 10 and 6 in their opening two games. Liverpool are also missing a few players, and with the likes of Mignolet, Clyne and Moreno being error prone, it should be a high scoring game and one where both teams rack up plenty of corners. An end to end game that could be a classic!
Hull vs Man Utd: Ibrahimovic to Score A/T + Man Utd Win @ 6/5 (1500 KO)
Alternative: Ibrahimovic A/T @ 1/1
Ibrahimovic has been on fire in both pre-season and in the league so far – 3 goals in 2 games and he has looked every inch the Premier League player many expected him to be. His name and stature in the game is scaring opposition, and with Hull being taken far in the Cup, as well as having few players to rotate between means they are likely to be a little tired.
With Martial, Rooney, Shaw, Valencia and Pogba capable of great creation – the Swede should do well against the North-East side. 6/5 for Win + A/T is value, while William Hill currently have him as 1/1 to score any time. Bet365 have him price up @ 20/21, but 2+ is priced @ 9/2, while First Goalscorer is 3/1.
Spurs vs Liverpool: BTTS + Over 2.5 Goals @ 21/20 (1500 KO)
Four of the last six meetings between these two sides has finished Over 2.5 goals; two of which finished BTTS. Tottenham will again be without Club captain and the defensive rock that is Hugo Lloris. Liverpool lost to Nill against Burnley even after dominating much of the game last time out but before this; found the net four times in a thrilling opening game against Arsenal. You have to go back to the start of March for the last time Tottenham failed to score in a Premier League match, and they face a Liverpool defence who have conceded 5 in two matches.
I am looking to stay away from the high risk section for now – but should anyone fancy a bit of a flutter – Ibrahimovic 2+ Goals @ 9/2 is a very good bet and at an amazing price!
