Another winning nap week with the Steelers covering versus the Bengals but unfortunately we fell short in the other two games. Green Bay blew a 14 point 4th quarter lead to just sneak over the line with a late field goal while the Cardinals were level late in the 4th but eventually succumbed to a 7 point defeat. With Christmas Day falling on a Sunday this year most of the week 16 action will take place on Christmas Eve.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +3 @ 21/20 vs New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees has a strong bounce back performance last week and a lot is made about how good he is when playing in the Superdome. However this Saints team is just 3-5 at home this year and are essentially already eliminated from the place off race. They face a Bucs team that despite committing 4 turnovers last weekend still came within a whisker of beating the team with the best record in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys in their own backyard. That defeat has left them outside the playoff spots so a victory here is vital.
They defeated these same Saints 16-11 just a couple of weeks ago and it’s hard to pass up getting the better team plus some points.
Atlanta Falcons -3 @ 10/13 vs Carolina Panthers (NAP)
This Atlanta offence has simply been on fire all season and have put 80 points on the board over the last couple of weeks. For those two games they have also been without their most potent offensive weapon, wide receiver Julio Jones. All sign point to Jones making his return in this one and that would be a major thorn in the side of a Carolina secondary that have been highly suspect this season. Carolina are a better team that their record suggests and have lost a number of close games and certainly won’t lie down against their divisional rivals here. However with Quarterback Cam Newton struggling with injury this week they should struggle to keep pace with an Atlanta team that torched them for 48 points when the sides met earlier this year. The Falcons are an impressive 7-1 against the spread on the road this season and should be trusted here to cover a meagre 3 point handicap.
San Diego Chargers -5 @10/11 vs Cleveland Browns
For the final bet in the treble I’m going back to my season long favourite of backing whoever faces the Browns to cover the spread! A few weeks ago I was feeling that Cleveland was at some point going to pull out a victory but they now seem destined to become only the second team after the 2008 Lions to go 0-16 for the season. Even though the Chargers have a losing record they are a very capable team and a five point spread doesn’t seem a lot when you consider the average margin of defeat for the Browns this season has been more than twice that. In addition Chargers running back Melvin Gordon should return from injury for this one and considering the Browns season long woes in stopping the run he should be poised for a massive day here.
The three return a close to 6/1 treble.
Best of luck,
