NFL Tips: Week 4

261

Apologies for the non post from me the past weekend. The usual preview was prepared but I was travelling and some technical difficulties meant I couldn’t it into the guys. Back this week and hopefully back to winning ways as well!

Denver Broncos -3 @ 20/21 (vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 2105 KO) – NAP

I’ll be the first to admit that I had serious reservations about the Broncos chances of repeating last February’s Super Bowl win this season while the Buccaneers were a side that I fancied to surprise. Well three weeks into the season and the Broncos are continuing right were they left off while Tampa despite showing some promise have lost two on the bounce.

Over the first few weeks, new Denver QB Trevor Siemian ran a steady ship and rode out massive defensive performances by his team to gain the victories. However last week he had his coming out performance throwing for over 300yds and 4 touchdowns. He won’t hit those levels weekly but with his good targets to throw to in Sanders and Thomas this offence will put up points. Added to this the Broncos defence has been as dominant as ever and should give opposing QB Jameis Winston nightmares. In a week bereft of really good value bets the Broncos to win by more than 3 should be a gift.

Carolina Panthers -3 @ 1/1 (vs Atlanta Falcons, 1800 KO)

Carolina after only losing one regular season game in the whole of last season already finds itself having lost 2 in 3 games this season. They’ll travel to Atlanta to face their divisional rival Falcons who inflicted that sole defeat on them last year.

Atlanta has started the season well and currently have the leagues leading offence averaging almost 35 points per game. In Julio Jones and the running back pairing of Freeman and Coleman they have big time playmaker but its important to remember that they have yet to face a defence anywhere near the calibre of the Panthers.

For their part Carolinas main problem has been protecting Cam Newton with the QB having already been sacked 12 times in 3 games. However that shouldn’t be as big of an issue against this Atlanta team that has recorded just 3 sacks so far this season. Given a little more time to work with I expect Newton to find ways to make the big play and Carolina to gain a vital win.

San Diego Chargers -4 @ 11/10 (vs New Orleans Saints, 2125 KO)

San Diego come into this one with a 1-2 record but they could just have easily have been 3-0 at this point. In the season opener they blew a huge lead in the 4th quarter while last week they lost on a last-minute 63 yard touchdown pass! Despite already having lost a number of big time players on offence to injury, QB Philip Rivers has managed to move the chains with his short passing game and Melvin Gordon is finally starting to live up the hype leading the Chargers to being the 3rd best offence in the NFL.

Meanwhile the Saints have begun the season 0-3 and it is already looking like it could be a very long and difficult season for them. The only real positive has been veteran QB Drew Brees who has looked as good as ever. Honestly though, Brees (and perhaps Cooks) aside this is a really poor team. This could become a shootout for a while with their QB keeping them close but ultimately coming of a shortened week, traveling to the west coast and having their porous defence face a team averaging 29 points a game all signs point to the Chargers covering.

These three together add up to a 13/2 treble and my prefered double is the Broncos/Panthers combo at 3/1.

Best of luck
