I was hoping to only have to post the three Football League previews this week, and do the Premier League one next week – however betting sites seem to only allow you to pick one antepost bet from each league – I did fancy Newcastle to win the Championship @ 7/4 and Brighton to finish top 6 @ 6/4 – but it won’t allow me to combine them.
To form a nicely priced acca – I will now find one of value from the Premier League, so here we go! There is little value around as the top 4-6 are all odds on, so I’ve picked a winner, bottom finisher and a couple of points bets.
Winner – Spurs @ 9/1
I said to my younger brother a few weeks ago that Spurs are in one of the best positions since they are one of few at the top not going into the season with a new manager and a bunch of new players. Poch is simply moulding his team, improving where needed and strengthening the depth of the team – Wanyama, N’Koudou, Janssen added, a few more to come in I’d think and a couple to leave.
Kane, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Walker, Eriksen, Alli – the list goes on. A settled team, no upheaval – I think they have a great chance of continuing where they left off (before the 5-1 loss to Newcastle). They ran out of pace right when it mattered, and with a quality foil for Kane with the added Champions League football – they should be better placed should they go far in both league and cup(s).
Finish Bottom – Hull @ 2/1
Hull are losing players – and only has very few as it is! Diame has gone to Newcastle, Andrew Robertson could be off and Abel Hernandez is hot-property! Steve Bruce has quit amid rumours about his future, the owner is pain in the behind and they are not signing players! The fact that Diame got them promoted and immediately left says it all!
Bar Clucas, Snodgrass and maybe one or two others there is little quality in the squad – and with a week or so to go, and no new players coming in, as well as no manager (Zola is expected soon!). The only thing I see is them doing a ‘Derby’ and getting very few points, changing manager several times and eventually going down.
Points – Burnley Over 35 @ 1/1 & Leicester Over 56 @ 5/4
This is a market on Bet365, and two that stand out for me.
Burnley have a much better squad than last time, and in Andre Gray have a natural scorer who has the potential to bag double figures this season! Sam Vokes is another option in a likely 4-4-2 system. Gudmundsson is a solid signing from Charlton, Tendayi Darikwa and Michael Keane are their best defenders, and in Tom Heaton they have a good goalkeeper. I can see a lot of comparisons between them and Leicester – majority British, some very good younger players mixed with some experienced ones, a few good signings. This time, I don’t think they will go down. Over 36 – I think they will manage that!
The other decent looking bet is Leicester. They have signed some corkers – Ahmed Musa is a pacey winger/striker that might do well, while yesterday they signed Polish sensation Bartosz Kapustka for £7.5m. Ron-Robert Zieler is an astute signing to backup Kasper Schmeichel, while Nampalys Mendy is a like for like replacement for N’golo Kante. The retention of Vardy and Mahrez is awesome for them, while Daniel Amartey will get more game time now.
All in all they might suffer in the league due to competing in another competition, but with the signings they have made, the players they have kept and the fact that the likes of City – a 56 point+ season is likely to happen. United and Chelsea have all changed managers to world class ones – so a drop to 5th-6th might well happen. What they did last season isn’t going to happen again, as much as I’d like it to!
It promises to be another great season – probably not quite like the last but every season is different!
Very much looking forward to it!
We shall have an accumulator for the season up in a short while.
Best of luck
