After a great first week back – last weekend was a bit of a dud – lots of games going off-form, and plenty of shocks! Here are my 6 tips for this weekend:
Burnley v Liverpool Over 2.5 goals @ 10/11 (15:00 KO, Premier League)
Burnley lost their first game back in the premier league to Swansea, Liverpool were involved in an unbelievable 4-3 win away at Arsenal. Liverpool looked so good going forward and at times expected them to score every time they crossed the half way line. For all of their attacking power though as is reflected in the score line there is definite issues at the back and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Burnley grab a goal.
Blackburn vs Burton: Burton +1 Goal Handicap @ 3/4 (15:00 KO, Championship)
Burton will feel like they are flying after a fantastic 3-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday mid week. They come up against a very weak Blackburn side who sit bottom with 0 points and a -7 goal difference. Burton are still finding their feet and to back them outright still carries too much risk for me, with their last victory being so impressive and Blackburn still searching for a point +1 seems a lovely bet.
Oxford vs Peterborough: Peterborough to score 2+ goals 29/20 (15:00 KO, League One)
Peterborough are about as unpredictable as a football team can get as far as results are concerned, but one thing they always manage win, lose or draw is too score goals. They finished the leagues joint highest scorers from 13th place last year returning 82 goals. Newly promoted Oxford have already conceded five goals in three matches this season so two goals from such a high scoring Peterborough shouldn’t be too much too find.
Bradford vs Coventry: Bradford Clean Sheet @ 13/10 (15:00 KO, League One)
Bradford are three games into their campaign and have only conceded one goal. Across the whole of last season they only conceded 40 goals – the second best defence in the league. Coventry are still searching for their first goal after three matches, managing 67 all of last season. All of last season Bradford were renowned for staying resilient against the most prolific of attacking sides and that shows no sign of changing this year, 13/10 a good price.
Leicester vs Arsenal: Arsenal Win + BTTS @ 11/4 (17:30 KO, Premier League)
Both these sides come off the back of opening game defeats; Leicester were losers after a very subdued performance against new boys Hull, whilst Arsenal fell foul in a 7 goal thriller with Liverpool. Although the result for Arsenal was an extremely poor one, they began a very spirited come back whilst performing well for stages of the game. Leicester on the other hand were far from the side we saw last season, struggling to provide creativity in large stages while star man Jamie Vardy looked off the pace and missed what should have been for him a few decent chances.
As poor as Arsenal were defensively and as good as Liverpool were going forward – I feel they were on the wrong end of a freak result; after taking the lead, in any other game the performance would have earned them at the very least a draw. Basing on all we have after one weekend Arsenal should be winning this for me, frailties will provide Leicester with chances so BTTS is a good bet and I struggle to see beyond three points for the away side.
Scunthorpe vs Gillingham – BTTS 2nd Half @ 11/4 (15:00 KO, English League One)
Gillingham have scored six goals in three games so far, with all three matches ending BTTS. In all three games Gillingham have found the net at least once in the second half. Scunthorpe have scored seven goals already, with two of three matches ending BTTS. Within those three matches, five of Scunthorpe’s seven goals have come in the second half. Based on what we have seen so far this season this should be a fairly high scoring affair, both of these teams seem to up the anti in front of goal in second half and the price seems of good value.
Best of luck!
