Weekend Preview // UK – Football League

Hi all! After a rather boring summer for me – I have returned for my 2nd season writing for Accutipster!

I have been given free reign of the English leagues as Will is covering European football – and all markets available. As with the system, I have picked out two low risk bets, two medium and two high risk. All of mine this weekend are on Saturday – so below is all 6, which will be put into the relevant accumulators in the next 24 hours or so.

Low Risk Bets

Brighton +1 Goal @ 5/6 (vs Derby 15:00 KO, English Championship)

I really fancy Brighton to be battling with Newcastle for the title this year, they looked certain for automatic promotion for much of last season before it fell apart and the always ruthless play-off’s tore the promised land away from them. Derby were well…. Derby, they were there, but not really there, had to be considered but probably not good enough and so on.  Brighton were the joint highest scorers in the league with 72 goals whilst Derby managed 66, I feel  Brighton have miles more quality within their squad and should be much more the wiser after last years disappointment. Across the last five meetings there has been; two Derby win’s, two draws and a solitary Brighton win.

Southend vs Gillingham BTTS @ 5/6 (15:00 KO, English League One)

Southend finished last season 14th, they managed to score 58 times and concede on 64 occasions. For the league the ‘goals for’ tally isn’t fantastic but they scored 30 of these goals on home soil. Gillingham sat top of the table for an extended period of time looking good value for the title, Everything went pear shaped towards the tail end of the season and they finished an eventual 9th. Gillingham scored a massive 71 goals and conceded a total 56. Southend aren’t the most exciting in front of goal but the main thing for me is Gillingham had a considerably high BTTS percentage and couldn’t keep a clean sheet in any of their last six matches.

Medium Risk Bets

Ipswich Over 1.5 Team Goals @ 5/4 (vs Barnsley 15:00 KO, English Championship)

Ipswich face off against Championship new boys Barnsley, Barnsley who actually finished 6th in League one but made their way through via the play-offs. Barnsley conceded 54 goals which was the highest in the top 8 of the table. Ipswich missed out on the play-offs by five points and managed 53 goals all term. Nothing is certain, but an opening day home fixture against a play off promoted team is about as good as it gets.

Hartlepool vs Colchester BTTS + Over 2.5 Goals @ 5/4 (15:00 KO, English League Two)

Hartlepool struggled last year finishing 16th they managed 49 goals whilst conceding 72. Colchester were relegated from League One finishing 23rd they scored 57 whilst conceding an amazing 99. Colchester will be much more at home with this level of opposition, although many times last season they looked out of their depth in League One they returned a decent amount of goals. Hartlepool’s goal-scoring record wasn’t particularly brilliant but it’s hard to look beyond Colchester’s colossal goals against tally.

High Risk Bets

MK Dons Win + Over 2.5 Goals @ 10/3 (vs Shrewsbury 15:00 KO, English League One)

Newly relegated MK Dons open their season against a Shrewsbury side that finished 20th last year. Shrewsbury’s goal tallies were; 58 for and a massive 79 against. MK Dons should be battling for the title come May and I don’t think they’ll be too concerned with the challenge Shrewsbury pose, although admittedly against much stronger opposition they conceded 69 goals last term. MK Dons should be much too strong for Shrewsbury but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see BTTS in this one.

Matty Taylor Anytime Goalscorer @ 2/1 (vs Scunthorpe 15:00 KO, English League One)

League Two’s top goalscorer last season with 27 goals. If Bristol Rovers are going to maintain their new position in the league they will need another strong showing from their talisman. Taylor has been strongly linked with championship new boys Wigan which shows the class he possesses, he is a forward of supreme quality and I don’t see the rise in leagues being an issue for him at all. 2/1 to score in 90 mins is always going to be value.

Best of luck
